About Us

We are an umbrella organization for and led by youth with different disabilities including those with mental, intellectual, sensory and physical impairments. SAU works with, and for Youth with Disabilities between 18-30 years of age who face functional barriers in performing activities, ordinarily done by people within this age bracket as a result of mental, intellectual, sensory and physical impairments. These young people with different disabilities felt it was important to have own organization of Youth with Disabilities for a collective unified voice to address their unique needs and concerns at both District/local and National level.

SAU works closely and in partnership with the existing OPDs and is a consultant for OPDs and other organizations on matters pertaining to youth with disabilities. SAU has eventually become a source of reliable data and information on youth with disabilities in Uganda.

The organization has a fully-fledged secretariat and a functioning Board of Directors elected by the general assembly representing different disabilities, regions and gender balance with a five-year term of office who manage the day to day affairs/operations of the organization.

  • Dignity and respect; We appreciate and respect every youth with disability and treat all of them with the same dignity, love, compassion and respect. We also treat all our stakeholders, partners and supporters with the same level of respect and dignity.

The diverse nature of disability also helps to bring in different perspectives that SAU uses to strengthen it work.
